We are all spending hours and hours at home, playing with the kids, watching Netflix and if you're anything like me eating way too much! Maybe switch off the TV for half an hour, find some quiet time alone and try out a few home beauty tips from the Alpha Med Aesthetics skin experts.

They won't cost you a penny and will leave you feeling refreshed and pampered......

A home facial steam treatment is the perfect skin pick me up. Easy to do, with super fast results.

How To: Start by washing your face with your favourite face wash or cleanser and gently pat dry.

Take a large heat resistant bowl or pan, bring some water to the boil in a kettle and when slightly cooled pour into your bowl ensuring you fill to around 1/3 full. You can add a little parsley to the bowl if you have some, this acts as a natural astringent and helps clean pores by drawing out impurities.

Place the bowel of hot water somewhere safe and away from any risks. Lean over the bowl at around 12 inches from the waters surface and place a large towel over your head to create a tent like effect. Skin experts would advise you to sit like this for around 10 minutes to allow your pores to open and clear. You can and should adjust your distance from the water and the time you spend steaming according personal comfort.

After: Once you have steamed, you can wash your face again, pat dry and apply your favourite cream or try our DIY home mask.

Results: This home treatment should leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed.

Expert Tips: Our skin experts would advise to use extra care when using hot or boiling water for any home treatments.

The Avocado home mask, ideal for adults (not for pets!). This simple mask has been used for centuries in some parts of the world. Having all the power of a super facial, it moisturises the skin and leaves your face looking refreshed and soft to touch.

How To: Start by pealing a soft and ripe avocado; crush the flesh of the fruit in a bowl until all lumps are removed. Add a teaspoon of plain yogurt and honey and stir well. Mix for a few minutes until you achieve a smooth blended paste consistency.

Wash your face and pat dry, apply the paste over the skin avoiding the eye areas. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes; it may start to dry a little during this time.

After: Wash off with water or facial wash and pat dry.

Results: Your skin should feel soft, deeply moisturised and glowing.

Expert Tip: Our skin experts would advise doing a small test patch on your skin before applying the mask all over, if you experience any intense tingling, immediately wash off.

Moisturising your nails is just as important as moisturising your skin. We are all missing our fortnightly nail treatments at the salon, we are also washing our hands far more regularly, which really dries out our nails.

A simple and effective solution to helping keep our nails healthy and strong is using Vaseline to keep nails moisturised.

How: Wash your hands and pat dry, make sure nails are free from nail varnish or gel, before applying a small pea sized droplet of Vaseline to each nail. Massage the Vaseline into each nail, gently, also encouraging the blood to circulate. If you have very dry nails you can also apply the Vaseline before bed and wear a pair of fabric gloves (cotton gloves or knitted) overnight to improve the effects.

After: No need to wipe off, all the Vaseline should absorb into your nails on over the course of an hour or so.

Results: Silky, less brittle and well moisturised nails.

Expert Tip: Our skin experts would recommend you repeat the treatment once or twice a week for the best results. If you don't have Vaseline you can use olive oil and roasted sesame oil too!
